Tour commences 10.15am at Lille Europe Station. Your guide will be waiting at the Meeting Point on the main concourse.
Examine the current archaeological investigation uncovering the mass grave of over 400 diggers killed near the Fromelles memorial, tour the infamous Loos battlefield of 1915 and, availability permitting, take a tunnel to the trenches of Vimy Ridge. After considering the imposing Vimy memorial, move on to Arras to contrast the tragic legacy of the huge battle of 1917 with the city’s pretty streets. See the recently discovered underground tunnels near the French National memorial at Lorrette de Notre Dame. As always with Back-Roads, special requests may also be included on the agenda for a full day of historical discovery.
The tour returns to Lille Europe Station at around 6.30pm.
We recommend that you do not make onward connections before 7.30pm, in case of traffic delays.
